OLYMPIA, Wash. - A Thurston County 911 dispatcher helped save his own son’s life.
On February 4, Chris Scott’s wife Janna called 911 because their 6-month-old son Jacob was choking. He was unconscious and had stopped breathing.
The dispatcher who answered was her husband. The couple recognized each other’s voices, but had not time for pleasantries.
Chris Scott calmly talked his wife through a procedure that cleared the boy’s airway.
Janna says there’s no doubt her husband’s demeanor saved her son’s life.
His supervisor, Tammy Clark, was impressed by Scott’s calm manner during the call.
When she told him, “You saved that boy’s life,” Scott responded by saying, “That was my son.”
“I always dreaded getting a call like that. I didn’t know how I’d handle it. I guess I handled it pretty good,” said dispatcher Scott.
“He’s a pretty calm person,” Janna Scott said about her husband Scott.
Scott is a Marine reservist who recently returned from Iraq.
Incredible huh? I don’t know what I’d do if it was me….
