Mentality of a Fan-boy

I had a very interesting experience last night. I logged on as usual to my regular MMO. Recently, that MMO had some minor lag issues, and last night I was pleasantly surprised the lag was gone.

Hence I just commented in the chatbox saying “Cool, they fixed the lag”

  • Gamer A, who uses Singnet and is on Singnet’s new fibre connection, says “You mean Starhub fixed the lag”
  • I said “No, I mean <MMO company> servers”
  • Gamer A says “You need to dump Starhub. I use Singnet and I never encountered any lag at all”
  • I say “cuz you’re not on cable or ADSL like the rest of us. Totally different network”
  • Gamer A says “No it’s starhub. My friends on Singnet also never encountered lag”
  • I say “Then those guys complaining in the forums about lag, from Europe and USA, also on Starhub? Cuz they also have lag”
  • Gamer A says “No, it’s not <MMO Company> servers. It’s Starhub. I never encountered any lag”
  • I say “I have both Starhub and Singnet at home. I used both. Both had the lag. The whole point of me having both at home is so I can switch over whenever I encounter problem, so I can call the right hotline to complain by comparing performance. In this case, both ISP experience exactly the same problem”
  • Gamer A says “Then it must be either your PC or your lines are old. I never had any problems with Singnet”
  • I say “Singnet line just installed Feb 11, 2011. So if they’re old now, then how often do I need to get Singnet to come re-run the wires?”
  • He says “Then it’s your PC. I never had any problems with Singnet”
  • I say “No changes made to my PC. It’s been only like what, 6 hours since I last logged in? 6 hours ago there was lag. Now there isn’t. In between, <MMO Company> had a downtime to do maintenance. It’s just logical for me to assume they fixed the lag during this time. Besides, I also used my laptop and also encountered the same lag. So definitely not PC”

Then Gamer A promptly removes me from his friends list and put me on ignore - just because I disagreed with him that Singnet had no lag.

(Notice how he keeps saying he never had any problems, hence everyone else should also NOT have any problems? If you have, then it’s your PC or your line, but cannot be the ISP fault, just because HE never had a problem)

If this sounds familiar to you from Apple/iPhone/whatever people, this is exactly how they think… they refuse to see even when presented with PROOF. It cannot be their idol’s fault… it must be YOURS. They cannot tolerate it when you disagree and PRESENT PROOF, cuz they can’t argue back :)
