How To Hotsync Your Palm PDA To Windows XP 64-bit
This is written for people who still are using the older Palm PDAs, such as Zire, Tungstens et al. I am writing this disclaimer simply because this is untested on newer Palm products, but in theory it should STILL work.
The crux of the problem is that there isn’t a USB “driver” available for Windows XP 64-bit, hence people who run Windows XP 64-bit are suddenly unable to hotsync their Palm devices via the cradle/cable.
If your Palm device has a Wifi connection available, such as the Palm T|X, *and* your PC is also on a network, then you can overcome this problem. Nowadays, almost everyone has some sort of a home network set up, so this should be easily available.
- Select “Network” in addition to other methods you would like to sync, in the Hotsync Manager
- On your Palm device, select the Hotsync icon
- Tap on the “Network” tab
- Configure (if not already done so) which PC on the network you want to hotsync to. Choose either to sync via IP address or Hostname. I use IP address myself, although if your home network constantly has people hooking up and logging out, you might be better off with using hostname.
- Naturally in step 4, the IP address or the hostname must be the one where you’re running the Hotsync manager on.
- Hotsync away!
It shouldn’t matter which version of the Palm Desktop you have. I can remember the “Network” sync option being available as early as Palm Desktop 4.0 or even earlier, ie in the early 2000’s.
